About Games 4 My Kids

It was sometime in 2005 when the founder's kids discovered their first FLASH-based game on the internet. They were at a cousin's house and they played the game for a couple of hours. They liked it so much that they wanted to play it again the next day. The founder helped them get to the website and played it with them. It was pretty darn fun!

Shortly after this, the founder began to do some exploration on this website and some other similar websites. What the founder found was that there were a lot of fun games for kids, but that there were also a lot of games that he did not deem appropriate for his kids and his kids were constantly being bombarded by inappropriate advertising. The founder really had to wonder if he was comfortable letting his kids wander these sites. The founder discussed his concerns with his wife and she agreed, but they could not decide what a good solution was. It didn't seem right to ban the kids from the fun games, but also didn't seem right to allow them access to inappropriate materials.

As so often happens, life came at the founder with full speed and he spent less time monitoring the kids' game playing. One day late in 2006, the founder came home from a quick errand to find one of his kids playing a fairly gory shooting game. They turned off the computer. The founder gathered all the kids and told them that they were not to play these types of games and explained to the kids in the plainest terms possible why he didn't approve of them. The founder has been a little surprised, but extremely proud, as he has not seen any of his kids playing games like that since then. However, the founder began to be more and more concerned with the advertising on these gaming sites and began to think it might be a good idea to build his own gaming site.

In mid 2007, the founder began to think his resumé could be enhanced if he learned some PHP. As the founder began to learn PHP, he determined he would grasp it more easily if he only had a project to work on. The founder put a few feelers out in his network to see if anyone had a PHP project that he might be able to work on. Nothing seemed to fit his needs. In September of 2007, it dawned on him that his gaming website would be the ideal first PHP project. So in October of 2007, he added a subdomain to his personal website for the games. In November, he finally found a domain name he liked and registered it.

The vision the founder has for this site is to make it an ad-supported website that is aimed toward children from ages 4 - 15. Therefore, he reviews all the games suggested for the site before they are posted, and takes seriously any reports that games or advertising are inappropriate for the target audience. We are always looking for new games or feedback. That is why we have added the simple "Contact Us" form to our site. Please feel free to use it as often as you like.
